Scholarship Recipient Testimonials

Dolores Saxton Walker was not just an entrepreneur but a beacon of inspiration within the community and Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council (ChicagoMSDC). Her unwavering dedication to fostering future entrepreneurs has left an indelible mark on the mission of ChicagoMSDC. In commemoration of her legacy, the Chicago Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) established the Dolores Saxton-Walker Scholarship Fund in 1979.

For over four decades, this scholarship has served as a catalyst for empowering high-achieving and well-rounded students from minority backgrounds within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system. Initially awarding scholarships to six deserving students annually, each receiving $3,000 towards their college education, Chicago MSDC is proud to share that in recent years, our support has expanded significantly. Now, we provide $3,000 scholarships to 20 students annually, totaling over $650,000 in financial assistance. This underscores our steadfast commitment to nurturing future leaders in business, industry, and government.
A candidate for the Dolores Saxton-Walker Scholarship, must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and participate in a mandatory interview and special luncheon. This scholarship is a joint effort sponsored by the MBEIC and Chicago MSDC. In 2021, we honored the late Dolores Saxton-Walker by renaming our annual scholarship fundraiser and networking event to the Jim Osborne Scholarship Classic. This change pays tribute to Jim Osborne’s unwavering support for minority business development and reaffirms our commitment to nurturing academic excellence and leadership skills among students.
